Durban, place of sun and surf, but basically lies in the dark metal underground scene. Groups into the night to make people like you and me metal bands cited as the best in Durban as the contrast of Water and Darkness Pledge Defiance, but are they really the best groups in this time and age or are they threatend by the new and upcoming bands? A few years ago in Durban proved that the last battle of the bands was proven to be equipped and better bands below the price they had worked so hard, why do they do it? I tell you that no matter how are you, what you do, what you say, how brilliant and well colaborated your music is there one person who decides Higher who will succeed and which will fail.
In 2008, I decided to do a survey across the country and found that had fallen in Durban a political era where metal bands are either in the crowd or if you are simply shunned and never spoke again, this brings me to the point why the metal scene in Durban is so small compared to Johannesburg and Cape Town. In town, the Cape you have a group called Mind Assault Turns Night and Day Two Cape The most popular city, but other groups are still entitled to their reputation and their rewards. I went to a demonstration in Cape Town and bands so offered "open arms" to help other bands get up and get the recognition they deserve was Unbelivable. Cape Town certainly has something to teach the crowd in Durban. Then I landed in Johannesburg, the capital of the metal scene, each scene as an individual than the other. You've had your goth, metal heads, ravers even in clubs and events, but I saw a band that knocked the socks at once my feet, Erebus "Wow is all I can say" this group knows what they do and they need to become famous one day. It is said Erebus performed at the Red Door in Pietermaritzburg for a chance to play on the same stage as Devil Driver, they were the best band tonight, but as Durban proves the same point again and again a band called the Reverend Henry Kane, a local band from Durban took the rewards later for this, this group has nothing to offer and honestly not very good, even with the singer blonde hair, the whole group was not so impressive, but why did they succeed? Politics … not because they were good, just a whole on what you and with which you know. Recently I decided to continue my Servey and returned to Durban to try and dig some more dirt and when I was there I found … Well, he found me! Burn was hosting the Burn The Bands "known as the Battle of the Bands," I felt it was my duty to stay and watch what was happening and Durning If I saw a bunch of "wow" honestly, they were a band, they had all … talent, charisma and I felt really sorry for this group because I knew the better you are the more you suffer in the metal scene. The band perfomed so well and you were standing in the crowd, you feel the power and energy they emit, of course they look scary, but their melodic charm catches you within reach and you do not want to take the flight that you really want to stay there and move closer to listen. This band was called Cynical Origin, the group most incredible that I never expierenced in South Africa. It's not a joke when I say that this group should play abroad and not in this counrty, because they are more talented than any band I saw that night, I saw another band in their own kind, The Hollow defiantley they called them, they have something to offer and they stood out like a bull in a haystack, they had a wow factor about them, but not as cynical nearlly Erebus and Origin. By early evening, I saw a group that really dissapointed, a group of four musicians called the Red Theater tracks, a death metal singer, of course they were good, but the keyboard kept me throwing off the real structure behind the songs and yet people loved for what I could not understand what I thought to myself let me search a little more, then I discovered that the owners of Durban only metal club is Delia and Barry Drewett, and suddenly everything made sense to me, the funniest this subject is Barry Drewett is the lead singer of the band contrast for water and Delia Drewett is their manager, Conveniant tell me if there is no policy behind the metal scene in Durban. I unfortunatley had to return home and wished I could stick around for the finals for battle webs to see how it goes down, but I think I have a really good picture as to how it will turn out and I know that groups that deserve win … will not.
